Cool little controller

Caution; If you're going to use this thing with a 5 volt light strip, make sure you give it 5 volts. When I first plugged it in, I ran a 20 foot extension between the power supply and the controller. Everything glowed beautifully. All the color patterns worked, but the musical effects seemed like they were maxed out even in total silence. I went to YouTube and found a video of a person having the same problem. I assumed it was broken and ordered a second one but ran into the same problem. After removing the extension cord the problem went away. My guess is that the microphone on the board needs a slightly higher voltage to work and the voltage drop on the extension cable was too high. Other than that, the thing works fine. The music effects are cool and very responsive. The board looks surprisingly high quality, which is rare in such gadgets. The RF remote control and functions are simple and straightforward. You don't have to go through a million different modes before finding the one you want. I like the dimming control but wish it would work with musical patterns as well. Or maybe adjust the sensitivity of the microphone. When the controller is set to one of the monochrome modes, you can switch between about 50 different colors on the remote control. You can't set it to white, only different modulations between RGB. I'm not sure what the lock button on the remote is supposed to do. It doesn't seem to be blocking anything. If you press and hold the button, the indicators will flash white rapidly several times.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
