I understand these awls are for sewing leather but I don't use them. These tools are very useful for attaching zippers (ear loops) to your face masks. In most cases, I prefer a hooked awl for two reasons. (1) The groove works well for most cord sizes without fear of cutting or ruining the fabric, and (2) since you only have to pull two threads through at a time, the loops slip through the cord locks quite easily. This is an easy (inexpensive) solution to a problem that (without the right tools) can sometimes be a real headache. Instead of struggling with a needle or tiny tool that some manufacturers include in their products, try this. It really works very well.
