These tent poles work great! I like this segmental style, which combines elements of the telescopic style, for two reasons. First, I like the reliability of the connected segments. Second, there are two 5-piece sticks, but if I plan to use fewer segments (e.g. two 4-piece sticks, I can leave 2 of those on the hike). These poles are already lightweight, but the ability to take apart multiple poles in one pack adds versatility. It was a well thought out design. The "tip" end is the same length as the rest of the rod segments, so there is no protruding tip in the package. (see photo) Finally. The mandrel is threaded and can be easily removed. I sometimes use these poles as a prop under a tarp, and I could get regular 3/4 inch pole caps at the hardware store for less than $2. You can easily close the top and bottom to support the tarp and use it on the tarp if needed (see photos). I also believe that quality should be well constructed. These poles are now an integral part of my hiking gear.
