Revainrating 5 out of 5

When it comes to problems, you couldn't ask for a better business solution.

As others have warned. Be sure to test this power supply in service upon receipt or as soon as possible before the return period expires. In Quiet/Silent mode, the fan does not rotate and is silent. but. When the fan is on, the noise is unacceptable. As others have reported, it makes a rattling or clicking noise. Looking at the fan when it's running, the fan blades seem to wobble a bit! After it's been running for a while, the audio fades to a more acceptable level, but you can still hear it from 5 feet away. This is unacceptable for something advertised as "quiet operation". On the other hand, I bought mine from Revain. You couldn't wish for a better solution from the company in such matters. The return has been processed and a new one sent. No fuss, no fuss. If the exchange of the block is silent, I will be happy. If not, I'll post it here so everyone knows. UPDATE - DECEMBER 11, 2015 Found a forum where Silverstone was discussing the noise issue. Based on the statements made, I can state that a replacement power supply will not solve the problem for my particular setup. I'll let you know as soon as I've installed the new fan. I hope I'm lucky. Here's what a Silverstone spokesman had to say: "The SX500-LG uses temperature-based fan control. We believe the ticking noise some SX500 LG owners have been hearing is the result of an increase in applied voltage. with a temperature controller to the fan. This is more noticeable in terms of the voltage required to start the fan.” This one is dead quiet. no noise! UPDATE - DECEMBER 16, 2015 Bad news. Three days of excellent work. then it failed. Just got up and died in the middle of some updates. They changed it to a known good, everything is fine, they put a bad and nothing. Dead. Believe it or not, this error is not too worrying as I know that any electronic element can fail. TVs, receivers, Blu-ray players, etc. Also, I couldn't find anyone reporting the same issue. I am contacting Revain for another replacement. UPDATE - DECEMBER 20, 2015 Received replacement from Revain. Thank goodness I ordered from Revain and not another online store. From years of buying computer parts online, I know that no other company is as customer-centric as Revain. From experience, other computer parts companies would blame me. or force me to file a warranty claim with the manufacturer. Good news. I'm back in business. Not very good news. This one isn't as quiet as the one that failed, but it's a lot quieter than the first. Where the first power supply made loud clicking noises. This one is more like a soft squeak. Sounds like a mouse on the block. or noises like dry fan bearings. look, look, look. However, the creaking occurs when the fan is not spinning. As soon as the fan turns on and spins, the creaking stops. However, I will cut my losses and just leave this one. Revain was more than fair and went out of their way to help me with this power supply. Also, it's not the end of the world, I can't hear it when I'm a few feet away. As mentioned in my December 11th update, the noise issue is a known complaint from some customers, but according to the manufacturer, the power supply works as intended and there may or may not be noise depending on the application. A NOTICE. If you must have a Silverstone SFX-L form factor power supply. and can wait a week or two, Silverstone is gearing up to release the 750W SFX-L and it's platinum rated! In addition, the fan control circuitry has been redesigned, which should address the noise issue that seems to plague this device.
