This is a Bluetooth specification with lower energy consumption, which designed to save battery power ) Just got it, plugged it in and it quickly paired via Bluetooth to my MotoG5+ Android phone. Then checked with ELM327 Identifier application to verify protocol coverage. Passed all current levels so far - all logs are marked in green - see screenshot. Excellent! Then connected to the torque lite android app which connected and worked fine once the connection options were set correctly (easy). I'll let you know later when I have something to say. Many negative reviewers don't seem to know how to set up a Bluetooth connection, which isn't difficult (and possibly how to troubleshoot). Some people think/misunderstand that the software is included or that you are forced to purchase the software, which is not true. It is simply a device that connects to the engine control module (ECM) and OBD sensors. Basically it's just a plug and play device and as with any of these devices you need software to be useful and that's not included - there's no bait and switch. Try free software first to test functionality, like Torque Lite for mobile or EasyOBD (Windows, from TOAD website) or easyobdii (Windows), then consider upgrading to a paid version after you have verified that it is working . , $5) or Touchscan (Windows, $30, trial available). There is also an "OBD II Auto Doctor" for Windows/Mac/Linux desktop.
