Makes water brown: aquarium water treatments

Shark Baits Water turns brown! I'm not sure if the leaves are helping him or not. I have noticed that his tank is turning brown and he is in a tank with a filter. He worried less about the leaves. I hardly see him use it and after buying him a plastic leaf hammock he still uses it more often.
