So far so good, best in Littering & Housebreaking

I had a Littermaid automatic tray and when it died (after 14 months) I decided to look for alternatives. The reason I didn't want to start another Littermaid was because of the design. Sometimes my cat would pee on Littermaid's back and I'm pretty sure that caused the device to malfunction. I did a little research online and found that others had the same problem - urine getting into electrical components. With Smartscoop, all electrical components are located outside the tray. So unless my cat stands outside the tray and "walks with his foot to pee," I doubt the urine will damage the device. In addition, Smartscoop is much easier to clean. . Everything except the motor unit can be submerged in water. The entire arrangement can be easily dismantled. The only parts of Littermaid that could be lowered into the water were the litter box and the rake. This made cleaning difficult as the rake runs along the guide inside the frame and not along the tray. The standing area is so close to the toilet room that wet dirt can stick to it. Try as I might, I never managed to erase everything. Also, emptying the trash can on the Littermaid was a messy job. On Smartscoop it only takes a few seconds and leaves no mess. On the other hand, Smartscoop isn't as good at picking up litter and leaves behind more litter than Littermaid. Also, my cat tends to urinate behind the tray in front of the rake. The rake doesn't fit snugly on the back of the unit, so there is kitty litter behind the rake, causing a clump of litter to stick to the rake (which I have to scrape off). I think the Smartscoop makers need to make a few improvements, e.g. B. Put more fingers on the rake (bring them closer together) and fix the garbage problem behind the rake. When I received the Smartscoop the motor did not turn on automatically. I suspect the sensor was defective. I called the folks at Our Pets, the makers of Smartscoop, and they sent me a replacement motor within days. They also sent a toy for my cat with apologies. It was nice to have such friendly and quick service. A little extra info: Smartscoop has a 1 year guarantee, while Littermaid only has a 90 day guarantee. My friend bought Littermaid and he died after 95 days. All in all I would recommend Smartscoop. I gave 4 stars only because of the two issues above.
