I've owned this case since February 2011. it: Case designed only for low power drives. This means larger drives in the 2GB region and above won't be used even if they were, possibly with a firmware update. The FW400's connectivity ports were the reason I bought this case and people who had it said they were reliable. And between February 2011 and July 2012 it was reliable with a 1TB hard drive. For some, that's good lifespan without a disk enclosure. In fact, in this span of time, you can rest assured that you should probably be looking for NEW cases for newer, faster technologies - in this case, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt. But for an older drive and computer, this cheap FW400 case only lasted about a year and a half. The case it replaced, made by IcyDock, became even less reliable over time. And yet I have this case sold by MassCool which is almost 5 years old and still chugs. (I've read horror stories about some of their new enclosures, but the one I have is solid!) Is this a good enclosure? Today I would have to say no. Not because of the longevity β although it is certainly part of it. It just has too many limitations with modern drives. On top of that, if the year and the change is for the best, you can get out of it. No, there are better options.
