Card reader mediocre

I've been a regular user of SanDisk CF cards since 2005, in the professional world of digital photography like a lifetime. I always relied on the quality and durability of SanDisk products until this card reader came out. I'm currently shooting with a Canon 5D Mark III and it supports both CF and SD cards. I often photograph both. I have used (2) SanDisk FireWire 800 card readers for years with great success. However, my new Apple laptop doesn't have the FW800, so I had to switch to USB 3.0 card readers. With such a great track record, I decided that the SanDisk ImageMate All-in-One USB 3.0 Reader would be a great solution. it's not like this! The thin form factor is good, but the build quality is inferior. I know it's plastic, but it's cheap plastic. CF and SD cards do not slide easily and smoothly into their respective slots. The CF slot in particular is really poorly designed. The cards only fit about 1/8 inch into the slot and the cards are not held firmly in place. My CF cards just fell out because I moved the reader. Also, the Philip Stark-inspired base itself is completely useless. Looks cool but doesn't work. By the way, the base is removable and rests on a small magnet. However, the very stiffness of any USB 3.0 cable creates enough torque to cause the reader to detach from the base every time I try to install it on the base. Looks cool but doesn't work at all. I ended up buying two of these because I like having backups of all my gear. A few days later I gave one to my neighbor and the other to my relatives. That's fine for someone who downloads a map every few months, but not for an active daily user. SanDisk cards are awesome, but this reader sucks.
