I spent quite a bit of time on this work. It didn't work at all with any of the HDMI cables I had with my PI. It was set to a higher resolution, but I couldn't get it to work well on my Macs. I tried connecting directly to HDMI from my Mac mini and it got static. I tried with all my USB-C to HDMI cables, I either got snow right away or it popped up after 5-10 seconds. Tried 4-5 USBC hubs with HDMI output and snow after 5 seconds. watch the video This happened on my Mac mini, Mac air, MacBook Pro. I couldn't even get it to work with my old MacBook Pro. I tried many Thunderbolt/TB3, USB C to HDMI adapters and nothing worked. I tried Resolutinator, SwitchResX but nothing helped. It always shows @ 800 x 600, which is too high and makes it squashed since it's actually 800 x 480. My iPad didn't seem to mind, and after I plugged this USBC to HDMI adapter into my Mac mini, it started working! I switched to a different USB-C hub and it seems to work now too, so I have a spare. Still does not work with other USB to HDMI cables or adapters. For my second PI-enabled device, it worked right away. but it was just a console screen so it worked for basic PI but for mac/custom PI it needs some work to find a working option.
