2 winters used for a small bedroom at night. I was very happy with it the first winter, worked great, perfect size for a small children's room, easy to fill, mostly easy to clean, I had no complaints. I even liked the very low hum for the white noise effect. On the second winter the noise got horribly loud (not sure if it was the fan or the motor?) but I was able to fix this temporarily by turning it off and on a few times. Now I've tried using it for 3rd winter, but can't fix the loud noise. That's enough to give 3 stars. I used filtered tap water and admittedly only cleaned the unit with vinegar 1-2 times a month. It didn't affect my star rating - I tried to eliminate the loud noise myself. After thoroughly cleaning the entire unit with vinegar (the problem persisted), I disassembled the base and blew away any mineral buildup on the fan with an air rag. I put it back together and the noise was still an issue and now the fan wasn't blowing as hard and barely pushing the mist out. I then tried spraying a small amount of WD-40 on the fan mechanism to lubricate it and hope it would spin better. nope Wrong deed. Now the fan won't spin at all and the mist just sits in the tank and isn't blown out. Time to look for a new and different humidifier.
