Flash working hard to be your slave!

I've been a professional for 24 years and for decades I didn't buy any automated flash systems, never the complicated Nikon flash units, Metz SCA or even Sony ADI TTL systems. In fact I've never been interested in shoe mounts, preferring big grips like the Metz 60 series for on location work like sporting events and on location portraiture. The reason for this is that smaller single strobes will not be able to work at a working aperture like f8 with large modifiers like softboxes and high ceilings without going to ISO 800 and above or well below ISO in direct sunlight. Also, no flash can fire continuously at full power, so 1/4 power and below is a normal manual setting for me. I also shoot events with Nikon and Sony Alpha, so I need a flash system that performs the same no matter what camera I pick up. This is where the Yongnuo YN560-III came in. I often need a reliable fill light that I can place anywhere: on the floor, in a reflector, or on a mount above the camera. This flash comes with a handy little foot that balances it well even with a separate wireless trigger like the YN-622N Yongnuo YN-622N Wireless I TTL ITTL HSS 1/8000S Flash Trigger with 2 Transceivers - Compatible Camera Nikon D70 D70S D80 D90 D200 D300 D300S D600 D700 D800, D3000 Series: D3000 D3100 D3200, D5000 Series: D5000 D5100, D7000 Series: D7000 D7100; - Compati. . It might seem like a silly little thing, but in many cases having light where you need it most requires some stealth. Then there's the huge gradient of manual power settings. I'm used to dealing with power levels, not EVs, so the power setting range is a big step up. In the days of film, manual flash mode meant only full power or a reduced power motor drive mode (like 1/32 or 1/64 power), so the ability to increase power in 1/3 increments is reduced to 1/128 will be great! At 1/4 power and below, the reloading time for a 3-shot burst is immediate, especially when purchasing Panasonic Eneloop Pros Panasonic K-KJ17KHCA4A Eneloop Pro Individual battery charger with 4 AA NiMH batteries, 4 pcs. Then, alongside the single firing pin that makes it compatible with any ISO hot shoe, there are various slave triggering modes like the optical S1 and S2 for on-camera flash triggering, and the RF-602/3 receiver to let you know what it is connected to one of the 16 channels with a highly visible blue LED. With the advent of the Yongnuo RF-603NII-N1 Wireless Flash Trigger Kit for Nikon D700 D800 D1 D2 D3 D4's $35 RF-603II Trigger/Receiver, which now supports all single-pin hot shoes, there is no longer a need to purchase triggers on certain camera models . or more flashlights. This $70 flash does everything but I have a $190 YN-568EX CE Compass Yongnuo Professional YN-568EX with TTL Wireless Speedlite Speedlite for Nikon D700 D3 D3s D3x D2x D300 D300S D7000 D90 D80 D70 D70S D60 D3000 D3100 for my Nikon system purchased HSS capability is used with full i-TTL trigger. To control the remote flash, there's a bright orange, backlit LED screen and about four buttons that cycle through configuration options, flash head zoom settings, and a few "other" firing modes. like multi. There's also a group settings function button that doesn't seem to make much sense without the YN-560-TX trigger. -603 RF-603 II compatible radios built in, but it's nice to know they're always there when you need them. Build quality seems pretty solid, and you can buy a replacement or two for little money. For me, just having a small flash that I can use in whatever I use and putting it in the side pocket of my camera bag makes a world of difference!

Pros
  • Camera and photo
Cons
  • Big and chunky
