Review on πŸ“Š Accurate Tanita BF-679 Body Fat and Body Water Scale for Reliable Results by Otto Suarez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works on carpet, woohoo! But with a (big) catch.

I loved my old Tanita body fat scale (TBF-621) but after 15+ years it finally gave up. I have to use it on carpet as my bathroom is too small for a scale. The old Tanita has carpet feet that raise it just enough to work well on low-pile carpets. I called support and was told that the new models don't have carpeted legs, and my old scale's legs (which are removable) don't fit. Based on that I bought an EatSmart scale instead as one article said they work on carpet. Not correct. He didn't even turn around when they stepped on him, he just drowned in the carpet. I then bought a UK scale (Salter) from amazon.co.uk which was advertised as having carpeted feet. But he underestimated my weight by 40 pounds. After comparing the underside of my old model with pictures of the BF-679w on Ebay, I finally decided to give it a try. Of course, despite customer service claims, the old carpet feet are perfect for the new model. See attached pictures of the old scale (top and bottom), carpet leg, new scale (top and bottom), and new scale with carpet legs replaced. As with the old Tanita scales, the measurements on the carpet are just as accurate. like on a hard surface. I'm so glad to have a working body fat scale again! The problem, of course, is that if you don't have the carpeted legs from the old Tanita scales, I don't know how to get them for the new ones. Maybe another support person could be more helpful? It's very annoying that Tanita isn't making them available considering they were before. Maybe they'll reconsider if enough customers ask?

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Overall ok but...
