Review on HTC Vive Tracker 3 0 PC by Bobbie Garrison

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quite expensive but worth it considering the experience with both the Oculus Rift CV1 and Valve Index!

Although they are quite expensive and maybe a bit overpriced, they are more than worth the money I spent to be able to use them for the experience they add. While there aren't many games that support them, I first got 3 of them to use in VRChat for full body tracking with hip and leg tracking and a couple of straps for that. And wow, I received these with low expectations when trying out a mixed Oculus Rift hardware setup with them, but it's amazing how accurate they actually are. Since I use an Oculus Rift CV1 as my HMD along with their controllers as I prefer them to the HTC Vive, I had to purchase the HTC Vive beacons separately to use them as Oculus doesn't have their own trackers, adding to the cost a little, but I don't regret it. Setting it up was very easy via SteamVR, although there are a few extra steps if you're using an Oculus HMD and controller to calibrate them in the same room as the Oculus hardware, but there are plenty of guides to help you through them get cooperation in no time super! However, if you prefer less hassle and ease of use, just use them with the HTC Vive. If like me you happen to be using an Oculus Rift, don't make the same mistake I did and make sure you have at least 6 free USB ports if you want to use 3 trackers, as you'll need a port for each tracker. Sensors and HMD. I can't say exactly how much for Vive users, but keep in mind that each tracker occupies one USB port, as the included dongle needs to be plugged into one with each one. *Change for Oculus users: If you happen to be using these trackers with your Oculus Rift, note that there is some interference that may vary when Oculus Touch controllers are near the trackers. I've had virtually no interference and near perfect tracking, but I know others who for some reason are getting heavy interference, even with 2018 trackers that cause less interference, but this can also depend on the position of the beacon's sensor. If you touch one of the trackers with the Oculus Touch controller while using it, there's a chance your tracker will ping in a random direction in virtual space for a few seconds, then go back to normal soon after. and that rarely happens to me. Reminder!* Edit 11/23/2019 for Valve Index users: I switched to Valve Index about two months ago, so I thought I could go ahead and share my experience of using Valve Index with this HMD. With the Valve Index, just like the HTC Vive, there was no setup required other than plugging in the dongles and plugging them into SteamVR as a new controller to get it working, it was basically plug and play. They definitely work much better when used with an HMD that also uses base stations/beacons for tracking as this is not a problem or concern. But I still thoroughly enjoyed my mostly flawless experience with them on my Oculus Rift CV1, although they took quite a bit of time to get started and I still highly recommend them for use with them. After a bit of research I also found out that trackers can be used in a similar way with any other VR headset like the Oculus Rift CV1, so even if you don't have that HMD and have something like Windows Mixed Reality or Rift S/Quest , You can use the same method for these!
