Really light or dark colors, you must use two capsules (or even three or four for deep black). Check out my picture showing the original "before" color and then the results with only one pod on each side (brown espresso on the left and olive green on the right). Good enough to get the yellow out of my closet but not as good as I was hoping so I remade them with two containers instead. Updated improved instructions: 0. Weigh what you want to paint. In a US top loading washing machine you will need 2 x 600g (21 oz) capsules.1. Wet your clothes thoroughly to distribute the dye more evenly. For many fabrics, this means leaving them in the sink or tub of water for a while to really soak in. The slow absorption of water is an indication that the absorption of the dye can also be slow and therefore uneven. The more the clothes get wet, the fewer problems there will be.2. On the longest cycle, set the washer to a hot wash and let it fill up, then stop before it starts chugging through its wash cycle.3. Remove the logo plastic wrap from the outside of the capsule and carefully remove the sticky instructions from the top of the foil on the capsule.4. Wearing medical gloves or a thin bag of food on your hands, gently open the top of each capsule and very gently and slowly pour the contents into the hot water. Washing machine. (Even a drop of dye can make such a mess that it's better to just flush the empty capsules through clothes and remove them cleanly at the end of the process. The ability to leave those capsules with clothes is what Dylon Machine Dye makes capsules great, the process is so much easier and cleaner (even if you have to pour the powder into the loaded washing machine.) 5. Very gently and gently, place the pre-soaked garments in the dye bath, spreading evenly over the Bath to prevent the washing machine from becoming unbalanced and leave as much dye around each garment as possible. Take off your gloves and put them on something that won't leak through (a glass bowl or metal pot is great since you can wash it). You probably won't need them again unless you dye more batches of that color or a darker color today, but wait until you discard them until step 12. A notice. I've only had a little paint on my gloves once, but being careful with the capsules in the beginning makes everything insanely easy. Getting rid of stains is a lot more work than preventing them.7. Start your washing machine and - IMPORTANT - set a timer to check every 5 minutes. Everything will be fine, but you do this so that you don't forget your current mission, which is to STOP THE WASHING MACHINE AFTER THE WASH AND BEFORE THE RINSE. Since my longest wash only takes about 15 minutes, I use them for small 5-minute sprints to make the bathroom and surrounding area extra nice. When the washing machine has finished chugging and you become silent just before the water runs out again, i.e. soaking, STOP THE WASHING MACHINE. (On my machine, the best way to do this is to push the button back in, but you can also just open the lid of the washing machine. I prefer to keep the lid closed whenever possible, so there's no smell of dye at all.) 9. Set Set a timer for 1 hour and jot down everything else in your area from your list.10. When the timer sounds, start the washing machine again, that is, let it continue the cycle that has already started and do the usual, much shorter, soak before rinsing. When loading is complete, add detergent and leave clothes and empty capsules in the machine and run another hot cycle. No need to pause this time, just let it pass as usual.12. Dry your clothes as usual and throw the capsules in the bin. 13. VERY IMPORTANT: Run another hot wash to remove residual paint. You can make this blank, but if you have items of this color that can be washed hot, this is a good opportunity to wash them. one unrelated color to another, but be aware that this will likely require pre-coloring to remove the old color (which I think Dylon does too). Figure 1 shows a center coverall washed with a single capsule over the garment (left brown, right olive green). Photo 2 shows one of my 600g green load with two pods in front and photo 3 after. Note that the synthetic lace has not changed color. The items in Image 2 were washed with capsules placed over wet clothing. Figure 4 shows my updated method of pouring the contents of the pod into hot water after the washing machine is full but before it starts chugging through the wash cycle; You can see how much more even the coverage is with this method. (The jumpsuit stack in pic 3 started out like the left one in pic 1. If I was really concerned about even coverage, I would use 3 or even 4 sleeves - some fabrics are good and others have a more colorful effect, such as black and white). you can see it on the bodice, but I like the variety in most garments.
