Running ethernet cables in the attic wasn't that difficult. With Power Over Ethernet, this is the only connection required. I routed all the cables in the closet and installed the DVR on the shelf in the closet. I had to run the power cord and ethernet cable from the closet to my router. For this I used white, wall-mounted passage plates. After connecting to the internet and using the app, I no longer needed to connect a VGA monitor. Night vision is pretty good but I'm sure future cameras will be better. Motion detection is basically either on or off. Trying to block points in the camera's field of view seems useless. Every movement gives you an alert on your phone. This is my only real complaint. Apart from that it works fine. I would recommend it for a small home. Only 4 cameras, but that was enough for me.
