This defrost heater worked well at first, but after about a month we found that it was heating up our freezer noticeably! We found that our ice had partially melted in the icemaker and returned to a solid mass and was not being dispensed through the door inlet. There were also a few drips frozen to the side and back panels under our ice maker. When we realized this, our freezer, which was set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, was reading 9 degrees. He was about to return to normal temperature. We checked again later that evening and noticed a strange overheating smell in the freezer (either from heated plastic or possibly melt water) and pulled out the bottom bin to notice a bright red glow coming from the defrost heater on the back. Wall. We immediately unplugged the fridge, let the heater cool down a bit, removed it and plugged the fridge back in without it until we could order and fit an OEM part to replace this apparently faulty generic part. When we removed the heater, it browned the edges of the connector's positive and negative wires for it. Ouch! I'm so glad we were lucky enough to keep most of our groceries out of this freezer until we decided it had a full refurbishment. If we refilled it, we probably wouldn't notice for a while, and then it could damage our fridge and burn out, causing more problems than we started. Within days we received and installed a replacement defrost heater and so far there has been no melting ice or burning smells with the original part from another online store. We still haven't put a lot of groceries in our freezer to keep track of until we're sure it's been fixed and we can rely on it again.
