For my 2016 Sportster 883 bike, it covers the cables and battery with the right hardware to ensure it's a fairly snug fit. No, old clips will not fit. (And who cares? Not that they worked the first time!) I recommend Velcro, although zippers look smoother and could inspire a little more confidence. The velcro has to be folded to fit through the holes and it's quite difficult to undo them. Either that or you have to pay for zips every time you need to get there. Overall, the item is exactly what I expected. However, I did not expect perfection. And I've been living with duct tape on my bike. So be careful.
