This was my first camera upgrade. I'm by no means a photographer, but I was interested in getting a camera that would take things a step above simple point-and-shoot. Although I initially had my eye on DSLRs, I was put off by the price and, having no knowledge base in this area, decided to stay away from them. A local electronics store employee showed me this camera and I was very impressed. I bought it here as the price was better than in store. This camera takes incredible pictures, at least in my opinion as a casual user, not a professional. I took it to the arboretum to photograph wildlife and flowers the first weekend after receiving it. The zoom allows you to take great pictures from a distance. I actually got a great shot of a hummingbird approaching a flower from about 15 feet away. The picture came out like something out of a National Geographic magazine. Working with the camera is easy and intuitive. I found the features that allow you to enhance color to be not only fun but also very accessible. The camera startup time is fast, so you can start shooting quickly after turning it on, which is a big difference from my previous camera. There is one gripe, but it may be more due to my lack of Mac experience than anything else. For some reason I can't figure out how to watch high definition videos on my computer. The camera captures them in a format that I (and apparently my MacBook) are unfamiliar with. I'm assuming this is an easy fix, so I plan to check the forums online to get some direction. As I said, this is probably due to my limited knowledge rather than an actual issue with the camera itself. I'm still experimenting with other features so I think I'll update this review as I get more comfortable with the camera. However, I only expect more positive qualities at the moment. Finally, the battery life should be mentioned. I was skeptical at first, but the battery actually lasted longer than expected. I've only charged the camera twice since buying it and had about four days of heavy use before having to charge it each time. While I expect this to decrease with age as most batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time, I was pleasantly surprised at the battery life. This is particularly impressive as the camera doesn't have a viewfinder and you have to resort to the screen. Overall, this is a great camera to get your feet wet with if you're taking more artistic photos or just want a solid camera that takes fantastic pictures. Although the price was on the high end for me, I felt it was worth everything I paid.
