Pleasantly Surprised

Key Findings: I'm impressed. This is high quality glass and the fit and finish is excellent. The protector size is almost exactly the dimensions of the RMBP screen. So don't try to see anything when you apply. Simply place the top edge of the screen protector at an angle against the top edge of the screen. It will naturally rest against that edge, and the curves on either side center almost the entire tread. Then just slowly tilt down like a hinge to attach the rest. It could be a bit more reflective, but it also seems to attract a lot less dust than the actual screen. The douche method seemed to work really well for me when used. I have no air bubbles. Corner radii are exactly the same as the 15" MBP. Fits like a glove. The lid still closes well. I have a 2015 15" MBP that I love. I actually prefer this model over the newer versions, so try to maximize its durability as much as possible. So I try to take good care of it, including cleaning the screen as gently as possible. But the display coating has always been a weak point on these MacBooks, and even with the most gentle cleaning (water, maybe some vinegar, always a clean microfiber cloth, etc.) the display coating started to chip off at the edges. Screen. Fortunately, so far the onset of this erosion has been limited to the portion of the glass that is outside of the actual LCD, but I work with graphics on this computer and the thought is that something could happen to the glass that would cause artifacts/problems with viewing of the screen began to worry me as blurry areas slowly grew over time. I couldn't clean the screen more gently, and I've been cleaning less frequently (which also meant working with a dirtier screen). I figured it would be best to find some sort of screen protector before it was too late. I bought this screen protector which seemed like the best choice out of not many options. The good news is that this is a really good product. Directions are useless but I got in without any bubbles. You really can't tell it's there. The reflectivity might be a bit more pronounced than the actual Apple screen, but let's face it, this screen still reflects well. Here are my key takeaways after using this screen: • I used the hot shower method mentioned by another reviewer and it worked like a charm. Just turn on the hot shower with the door closed while cleaning the Macbook screen in another room • If steam comes out, turn off the shower, close the door and let the steam stand for 3-5 minutes • Take a laptop, clean it the cloth and screen protector in the bathroom and close the door. • Clean the screen one last time and make sure there are no dust particles on it. • I find it easiest to place the laptop screen horizontally on a horizontal surface (keyboard facing up at an angle). This makes it easier to attach the film without stressing the hinge. • Remove the protective film and position it so that the adhesive side is facing down towards the floor and the camera cut-out is facing up. Remove both sides of the plastic covering the adhesive. • Start at the top, but at a sharp angle. Please note that there is a raised edge around the screen and you will need to fit a screen protector to keep it within this edge. So use the bar almost like a hinge and just push the protector against the top, make sure it has room left and right, then slowly lower it down. This ensures the screen is symmetrical at the top (where it's most visible) and the camera cutout is aligned with the camera. • Finally, use a cloth-wrapped credit card to slowly move the air bubbles to the edge. I wouldn't wait to do this as it looks like it will get more difficult as the glue sets. I was lucky enough to move very slowly. It takes a little patience, but they will move. I waited a day to try it on again and got it to move to the edge, but the glue left a small outline of where the bubble was. Thankfully, after a few hours, it's completely gone. (Note: I didn't use any of the stickers that came with the screen protector. In particular, don't worry about the alignment stickers. The screen is cut very close to the RMP screen dimensions. You don't need stickers.)
