No instructions included but no assembly required and the way this stool unfolds and folds was pretty obvious after playing with it a bit. One leg was a little resistant to unfolding, but I think now that I've got the hang of it it might get easier. Also a drop of oil on the inner pins that slide in and out to hold the 4 legs in place might help. Folding and unfolding this stool can be difficult for a small child as you have to press firmly on the pin with your thumb to push it in and move the leg. Using a teaspoon as a thumb guard will help.
