I bought this unit 3 years ago to replace another weather radio that was missing some key features. Our area experiences thunderstorms in the middle of the night, which often become violent and produce tornadoes. We definitely want to know when a storm is about to turn dangerous, but we don't want to be woken up by lots of other events or a siren that's too loud and doesn't have a volume control. This product can set the siren. Adjust the volume of voice messages independently, as well as turn off recommendations, clocks and non-critical warnings. So far it has worked exactly how we wanted it to, albeit not perfectly. At the lowest possible volume, the audio is still too loud to keep on the bedside table, so ours is on the bathroom vanity. The radio works well, but the sound quality is comparable to a cheap clock radio - another reason not to put it on a bedside table. Finally, if you like puzzle games, you will enjoy working with all the settings. However, it's a huge improvement over what it replaced.
