So close to being amazing.

After reading numerous reviews of this flashlight I am aware of its strengths and weaknesses. One of the shortcomings that came up in every review was the barn door mounting system. I thought I had been warned in advance how easy it was to undo the tiny threaded screws when trying to install the barn doors but I was still outraged by what I saw and what happened. First, the shanks of the screws are so narrow and the threads so tiny that they beg to be ripped off or cut off. Not to mention the rounded head shape that makes gripping the screw nearly impossible. Plus thin case sheet metal that wasn't precut so you basically have to carve the case with those tiny set screws! Well, after 15 minutes of painstaking work on this, I had three out of four. The screws started, but the last one just didn't work. Eventually he started screwing up. At around 75% of the way, the screw head suddenly just sheared off, although it was being screwed in without much resistance. I'm an engineer and quite a mechanic so I can tell you this is not operator error. So now I have a choice of returning it for a replacement or refund or drilling and cutting the sleeve to a more appropriate size like 10/32 and screwing in the correct screw. The only other issue I would like to mention, and which has been mentioned by others like Gerald Undon, is that the quality of the light changes dramatically at extremes, from 5-10% to 95-95%. 100%. This is because it changes in 5% increments and at 5% only the cooler LEDs are lit and when 10% is selected it's a combination of cold and warm LEDs which makes a big difference in quality. bright. The same problem at the other extreme. Of course, if you never use it in these extreme conditions, that's not a problem. The light is clean, pure and very bright. The RGB lighting is also great. I wish you didn't have to connect two batteries to use it with battery. It would be better if it could run at half power on a single battery, but that doesn't matter. Aside from the barn door issue, the build quality appears to be top-notch. The storage bag is good, although everything in it tends to rattle more than it should as the top of the zip is about 2.5cm above the contents when closed. I can stick in some microfiber towels to help with this issue as microfiber towels are always needed. will be five stars. Almost achieved two stars after the screw sheared off, but the reality is that the main functions you need this light for are in spades. Manufacturer - FIX IT!
