After a long search (and I'm still searching) this is the ONLY iron I can find WITHOUT the horrible auto shut off feature found on all other irons. The auto shut off works by itself, never works to the iron manufacturer's specifications, shuts off while the iron is moving, shuts off after a few seconds, etc. If you need to sew or iron for a long time, you know how frustrating the auto shut off can be . Unlike people who gave this iron bad reviews, I don't see any issues with the smooth ironing; However, aerosol starch sticks to it like all other irons I've used. Also, all iron manufacturers recommend using tap water. I can't figure out why because most tap water has minerals in it which will clog the iron and eventually the iron will spew this brown substance onto anything you press. For this reason I still use distilled water. After filling, allow the iron to continue heating for a few seconds. If the iron still leaks at the bottom, you may have a faulty iron. This iron is by no means perfect - it's not heavy when you need it, but I prefer a lighter weight iron as I often iron for hours. ironing time. The metal ring you pour water through came loose from mine, but I put it back on and it's still holding. For that and also because it doesn't have a steam boost function, which would have been nice, I'm giving it four stars. For my purposes, this is superior to anything auto disconnect related!
