Wick Life - Parts & Accessories

I have been using these wicks for many years and have been happy with the results. In some reviews, people have complained about having to change wicks frequently. I see two reasons why wicks can go bad quickly. First, the mineral content of the water, the higher the mineral content, the faster the wick will clog. So if you're using well water, you'll likely need to change filters more often. Second, particles in the incoming air. I have found that adding an additional air filter to my Essick model H12-400 humidifier significantly increases wick life. Obviously, adding an air filter reduces the airflow through the wick and thus reduces the exit moisture. But I haven't noticed a significant decrease. Another issue will be how well insulated your home is. In a home with poor thermal insulation and low outdoor humidity, the humidifier will run longer, reducing the life of the wick. I live in the Northeast and my humidifier runs on low speed and maintains about 40% humidity on my ground floor of 1000 feet plus living space. I only use one wick per winter season and it works well.
