I like the support these pillows provide. It comes with two sets of removable pads, one of which I believe offers more support than the other, or you can use the pillow without a pad at all. I have only used the inserts with my pillow while sleeping and have not experimented without them. I find the pillows are supportive, but sometimes they feel a little too firm against my neck and at the very top of the back of my head (I'll admit I have my head that sticks out at the top, so this may not be an issue for everyone). ). It took me a while to get used to it because of these factors, but I found that I didn't wake up with pain or stiffness in the morning and slept well overall. I don't think this pillow is the same as some of the water-filled options I've tried, but it's definitely a step up in terms of support and comfort over the basic cotton-filled flat pillow.
