Review on Norpro Jumbo Mugs Set - Top Choice for Coffee Lovers by Josh Garber

They made great handmade gifts!

Since I love mugs with large bowls, I chose them to make these DIY Paint Sharpie mugs as Christmas gifts. I ordered three of these kits and the production was the same for each box. They are beautiful, pure white and perfect for drawing and writing. Turned out great, size fits. I ended up with an extra one, so I made it for myself! When using them I found them well balanced and comfortable to grip - they have really big handles. I suppose a larger mug would be awkward to hold, but I don't think this one is any different. There is something so cozy about preparing a cup of tea or coffee in such a mug. For anyone wondering what I did: I drew designs on the mugs with oil-based markers, placed them in the oven and set before heating. to 420º (**see update**), let them sit there for an hour, checking from time to time to see if they were browned from the heat (they weren't browned), then turned off the oven and let them cool. Oh, and when I made the design I wrote "hand wash only" on the inside as a precaution - I've spent too many hours not doing it! These were very popular Christmas gifts that I am proud of. :) UPDATE: Six months later the mugs still haven't washed out their colors and I've been told they were accidentally put in the dishwasher a couple of times. I had some color changes with the original mugs; Red became maroon and all shades of blue became green. However, I got advice from a potter that 400º is too hot for some colors like sky blue to remain intact and advised me to bake mugs at 350º instead. This person was absolutely right and in the last batch I made the colors were much lighter and I had less color shift. So lesson learned! Maintain the temperature up to 350º when color is important. I will update in the future to make sure the colors stay in place after baking at this lower temperature.
