Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Improved Performance with Standard Motor Products AC423 Idle Air Control Valve by Jonathan Reddick

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked great on a 2004 Mercruiser 5.0L - no more beeping

My 2004 Chaparral with a 5.0L Mercruiser had a "soft" alarm, 2 beeps every minute after the engine started. Really annoying. And it doesn't start easy. Also, the idle speed was far from what it should be under "normal" conditions. One afternoon I spoke to a dry dock boat salesman and he explained what the alarm means and possible solutions. I did some more research and narrowed it down to an IAC valve. Don't waste your money on an overpriced "official" Mercruiser part, this valve from SM Product is about a third the cost of the OEM valve. It's a Chevy small block engine, after all. The supplied gasket does not fit the Mercruiser. Purchase the required Mercury Marine ZZ Gasket. I also bought an IAC foam damper that fits in the throttle body. The silencer is a big part of everything and it's wise to have a backup on hand. It took me 15 minutes to swap out the IAC valve and muffler. Simply remove the engine cover and everything is easily accessible. All details fit perfectly. Extremely easy repair. Be sure to buy a pad. The engine now starts quickly, idles well, and no longer beeps when climbing a lake. I hope this helps you with your boating issues.
