The AX-500 is a well built, solid machine that sounds great. The carrying strap is very convenient as it is very easy to pick up and take with you. It's water resistant, not waterproof, so it's fine in the rain or by the pool, but not in the pool. But let's get to the most important thing - the sound. When comparing real-time audio to the Braven 850, TDK TrexMax, and JBL Charge 4, the Alpatronix AX-500 is a real contender. Interestingly, each of the above speakers have their own subtle EQ differences that make each one unique. However, when it comes to overall sound quality, especially bass, the AX-500 is on par with the big boys. The large passive subwoofers are protected on both sides by a dual-purpose cover that also dissipates sound. The highs and mids are balanced with the lows. The built-in equalizer switch has two modes: indoor and outdoor. External mode sounds like it improves the Fletcher-Munson curve, which is the low-volume compensation for highs and lows that the human ear loses. Most people know this as the "volume" switch on their stereo. the range on my iPhone is also impressive. The AX-500 costs many, many dollars less than the competition, making it a great value. I emailed customer service and the response came almost immediately. Alpatronix seems to have customer service at the top of their priority list. The support phone number is listed multiple times in the user manual. This is an observation that could easily be corrected. The user manual may contain a more detailed explanation of functions, buttons and interfaces. In particular, a USB stick, a USB-C charging port and an AUX input. However, they are easy to use. Another observation, the display says it's a 5400mAh battery but the label on the bottom of the speaker says it's 2500mAh. I intend to call the company to find out what is true. The battery is 5400 mAh, there was a wrong marking on the case. This will be fixed. The USB port can be used to charge your phone while using the speaker or to play MP3 files directly from a flash drive or MP3 player. Overall I give this speaker a 5⭐️. A winner, and it comes with a two-year guarantee if you sign up online. This is my new way for the workshop, outdoors and on the boat. I am very happy with this purchase. Everyone who has heard it is also impressed by the sound.
