Ordered this system. It arrived very quickly and communication with the seller was excellent. My plan was to turn the system on at the kitchen table and let it run for 4 or 5 days to get used to it and make sure it was working. I figured if he didn't live up to expectations I might send him back as a revenant. So far, so good. I've been running this system in one configuration or another for over two months and have no regrets with the purchase. The quality and software features far exceed my expectations at this price point. My only complaint about it so far is the Android remote app. My problems with it are described below. Since I'm not very interested in remote viewing, that's not a problem for me. I did NOT receive a discount on this device like some reviewers did, so the following comments are solely my own. 1-4-17 Connected the system and everything except WIFI and video out. Everything worked fine the first time I turned it on. Easy setup with a wizard. Nice clear picture for any camera. As night fell and the lights went out, I checked my night vision. I don't know what he would do at long range, but in a house in complete darkness at 15 feet away I could easily see a person's movements and their clothing. I couldn't see the details of the face. 1-5-17 I left the system running all night and the recording worked fine. Today I opened the DVR to see how it works. The hard drive is a Toshiba 1TB 6Gb/s SATA hard drive. I plan to install a larger drive so we can We had two weeks of video stored on vacation. I can then use this drive as a backup drive on my server. On the left side when looking at the front of the device is a small fan. There is a good size heat sink on the main chip. I plan to mount the dash cam on the side with the fan at the top and the space at the bottom (to the right of the unit) to allow for airflow. There are three USB ports. One on the front of the DVR and two on the back. The mouse comes with the system. I tested it with a wireless mouse, but it didn't work because the driver for it couldn't be loaded. The other two USB ports can be used for a spare drive and wireless adapter. There is also an RJ45 LAN port on the back. I connected a Cisco bridge to it to connect to my wireless LAN. Entered password and connected without problems. I ended up running an Ethernet cable from the RJ45 port to my router. I had some trouble getting the remote access app to work with the wireless network. Not sure if that was the reason. Also a BNC video output connector. Not tested yet but I plan to hook this up to my video distribution system, so I can see the cameras on every TV in the house. I have a problem with one of the internal cameras. I moved the camera too far on the gimbal mount and some silicone tubing popped out. My fault is that I moved so much. I tried putting them back on but they wouldn't stay in place and there was no way to put a drop of glue in them. Then I read the instructions for the camera (yes, I should have done that before) and found out that the camera can be disassembled to mount it on the ceiling. Now I can glue the silicone parts back on. A useful point is that the instructions say to unscrew the bottom of the mount. I grabbed two pieces to unscrew and they wouldn't budge. The trick, What I learned was to hold the two parts very gently and wiggle them counter-clockwise. address I can view cameras and change any settings. This means I don't have to connect a monitor or mouse to the DVR and it's better hidden. It won't do you much good to make the DVRs into villains and then make them steal the DVR. Installed the SECU365 app as recommended by Zosi. My Norton AV said there was no risk. After it installed it seemed to install something else and suddenly Norton said it was sending data back to China and was a privacy issue. Considering this is a view of my house, I am very concerned that someone will break in here. It may be safer to disable remote viewing. If anyone has information about another application that is considered safer, please leave a comment. Also note the silicone bumpers on the inner cameras. After re-gluing, they fell out again during installation on the ceiling. The camera was still held in the position I set it to, so it didn't matter much. just annoying. I plan on replacing the silicone tubing with something else on the next camera I install. I had a small issue with one of the outdoor cameras and the seller responded quickly and took care of the issue. I was very satisfied with the quick response to any question from the seller! With all 8 cameras running all the time but not recording sound, I can capture a few hours of video in less than 2 weeks. I didn't do much to learn how to use motion detection or timeout for the camera. I'm guessing I'll be getting video for over 2 weeks just to record movement. I'll write more on this later when I have more time. One thing I found out is that you can only save video clips using the front USB port. I should have known about this before installing the system as I had to use a 90 degree USB adapter and a short cable to access the port. As mentioned, the front panel allows me to view live video, view recorded video, and copy recorded video to USB. and change all configuration options in my win7 browser. I wish there was a way copy part of the recording to my local Win7 drive via a browser. I plan to write support if a firmware update will enable this or another feature. I'll write more about that later.
