I'm 5'7" and let's just say I can actually lose some weight. But I bought a medium size because I don't like being too loose. The size was perfect for my needs. The spandex means they are stretchy and not tight like leggings, but perfect. Loose enough to be comfortable but tight enough not to look too big on me (8% spandex really helps). I don't know if I would call them "sweatpants" because I find sweatpants to be thick and warm. But in my opinion, it's definitely a leisurely free time lying around at home in your pants. The material is thin and soft.
