Loads right out of the box. The battery life is very good. The cutting performance is very poor. This was bought to trim my mustache and trim my beard. He does it. It also pulls out a few. It's just boring out of the box. The one I replaced, another famous brand, was 6 or 7 years old and was still a great trimmer, still sharp but the battery was dead. He never pulled his hair out. It works, but be careful, it will bite. I would not recommend it for a beard or mustache. Hair can be so beautiful! Still fairly new but will buy another one from a different brand.
