As I was looking into purchasing the SM-R170 (the previous model), I stumbled into these headphones and, after reading the specifications, decided that, for $2,000, I could have my ears surgically altered and still come out ahead. On the surface, there appears to be no distinction between the two models; both have identical ear pads and wires. However, a quick glance at the glossy body of the pluses reveals a major distinction between the two. The case also defies expectations by being scratch-proofβat least in my experience. In addition, they included a third microphone, which, as far as I can tell, is essential for the feature of listening to the environment at four different volumes; I find this feature quite useful. I turned it on, and I can hear the music and my surroundings equally well, though the music is more prominent. If you pause the music, everything becomes very real and clear, like a hearing aid, but if you turn it off, you are completely submerged in the music. It's handy, and I was assigned this task. They installed a second driver to boost the low end, and I can attest to the fact that it is now significantly more rumbling than before. To be honest, I don't care much for music and wouldn't listen to it even if my ears were surgically implanted in my skull. Nonetheless, I plan to purchase foam ear pads for enhanced noise cancellation. As an addition to this, the manufacturer has upgraded the housing and the ears themselves to hold more battery life, extending the time between charges. I found less interference after upgrading the model and bluetooth to the latest version, but it is still there in my mobile phone. There is now a Qi wireless charging standard, which is also handy. An engaging and illuminating app with a built-in equalizer that shows the current state of charge for each connected device. In conclusion, I'll say that I enjoyed the headphones; they stayed put when I wore them, didn't press too hard, and didn't cause me any pain after extended listening. However, if you insert them further into the ear canal, you may experience some discomfort; however, this is not a deal breaker, and I give the headphones a four out of five.
