Not an acrylic safe, no better than a credit card

I am an experienced fish breeder and have been keeping acrylic aquariums for 20 years. My tried and true method for cleaning stubborn green algae is to use an acrylic safety sponge or just a plain old credit card. I know the consequences of removing algae on acrylic, which usually takes an extra hour of my time with my sandpaper set to clean up my mistakes. This seaweed scraper is 100% not safe for acrylic. This may be fine with brown diatoms or simple powdery/filamentous algae that require little to no pressure, but using this on green spotted algae will definitely scratch your aquarium before the green spots go away. This blade is just hard thick plastic with almost no flex. In my opinion, that's worse than a plain old credit card that at least conforms to the curvature of your tank. With most 30 gallon or larger acrylic tanks, you can expect the tank walls to sag a little as they fill with water. So your tank walls are no longer perfectly flat. The blade of this tool seemed unable to follow these curves. I've put in enough effort to remove the green spotted algae and looking at the afterword I found the long scratches made by this tool. No, I didn't accidentally hit gravel or a stray snail shell or other debris while scratching. I'm going back to the credit card because it's not a worthwhile tool.
