When I bought this I thought I could clean the jug. When I found out you can't, I assumed it was made out of materials that prevent mold and mildew. I've been actively using this jug for over a year, but I've always changed the filter on time. The jug is always kept in the refrigerator. I thought I was ok with the maintenance. About two weeks ago I started experiencing an odd taste that got stronger over time until it felt/smelt distinctly moldy. I found mold in the sink (it was also bleeding on the outside of the spout) and tried to clean it. He doesn't understand. I broke it trying to take it apart. C'mon Brita, how much would it cost to provide the tank body? I'm changing brands to Aquagear. More expensive but understands and a lifetime guarantee. If you buy this Brita filter, beware of mold in the sink. See the disgusting picture attached.
