Obi202 review, bugaboo fix incoming calls and buyers beware.

I just bought this device after migrating my old landline to Google Voice. Everything went smoothly except that, as many others reported, the house phone didn't ring for incoming calls. Went to the Obi website and the ONLY advice they offer is to make sure Google Chat is enabled, which it was. Tried many other "meds" listed in reviews and online and came across this tip on Anveo.com site (kudos to them). This is "Tip 4" on the "How to fix no incoming calls on OBI device" page. In summary: 1. Login to your OBITALK2 account control panel. Click on "SP" where you set up Google Voice3. Make sure that both Phone 1 and Phone 2 are enabled for "Incoming calls ring". By default, this is Phone 1.4 only. Save changes.5. Reboot the OBi device. This worked for me after trying many other suggested options. Your results may vary. Also, I use ADT to monitor house alarms. I called ADT in advance and they said VOIP devices like this wouldn't work, but I agreed anyway. I set up OBi for home alarm monitoring, tested the service with ADT and it works. Again, your results may vary. With a very limited sample, the call quality appears to be quite good, although there is a slight delay that isn't severe enough to bother me. I must add that I am very impressed with this device. , due to what appears to be a general lack of support from the company. Not only are their online troubleshooting suggestions limited and useless to many of us (see reviews), but the screenshots they use for Google Voice are outdated. That tells me they are dropping this product or at least not prioritizing it. If you want to transfer your landline number to this device via Google Voice, please note the following: 1. Be aware that you will lose the emergency call.2. Please note that you will not have access to a live person to communicate with (by phone, chat or email) for support.3. Consider running a temporary Google Voice account to make sure it works for you before dealing with the hassle and expense of migrating your desk phone to the GV.4. Buy an OBi when you have enough time to troubleshoot and return the device within the return period if it doesn't work for you.5. If you get it to work properly, you really save money and you get the features and portability of the GV. I hope that was helpful.
