There are three stripes on the section that sticks out in front of the iPad mini when you lift it. They're very thin, and the one further down probably won't hold the iPad in that position permanently (it's likely to slip off). I should have gotten black as purple looks cheap with the material used. You get what you pay for. I really think this case offers good protection if you drop your iPad and the design helps you NOT to lose your expensive Apple Pencil 2. Incidentally, the first reviewer of this case claims that this case will not charge your Apple Pencil 2 because it has no direct physical contact with the magnet side of the iPad. However, this is NOT a problem for inductive charging, the pen only has to be close to the charging coil inside the iPad. I have a case with a very similar design that I use on my iPad Pro 2018 and the pencil charges well in it.
