You get what you pay for

I needed to install 1000 square feet of 3/8 oak flooring. I was limited to working only in the evenings, so renting a floor stapler was prohibitively expensive. I decided to buy it hoping it would at least help me get the job done. I bought this gun because unlike most other 18ga floor staplers, it can also be used as a regular stapler. It also fires pins, which I haven't tried yet. Here's what I've experienced so far: The tool itself is heavy and solid. It comes with a 1/4" connector ready to connect to your hose. The thin rubber grip is comfortable, although it may slip or move over time. The adjustable bottom leg is lightweight plastic and won't hold up long. comes off fairly easily so you can use a pistol to fire staples normally. The handles are plastic and the base of the foot is quite small. It tends to wobble or wobble. The force of each brace slowly moves parts of the leg that require constant adjustment - it's quickly becoming obsolete It's only plastic so no tightening of the knobs will create enough friction to hold the slippery bits in place (I'll try moving a piece of extra fine sandpaper around, to see if that slows it down.) You'll need to keep an eye on each hold to make sure the gun has changed its setting and the staples are there in sends where you want. Instructions are pretty poor/lacking for leg adjustment. Good luck finding this out yourself. on the other hand (?) you change feet every 20-30 minutes so you quickly get used to it. This weapon doesn't just let you fly through your rig, if only to keep an eye on the clamps (keep a set of nails handy - you'll definitely need them). Oh, the gun "sparks" almost every time it fires, even though it's lubricated with pneumatic oil. However, it comes with clear plastic screen protectors. The floor I install has its issues and challenges, so it can't take all the blame for my frustration, but the floor leg definitely doesn't make things any easier. The only thing worth buying this tool is that it's not just a floor stapler. I am far from thinking about laying a 3/8 multi-layer floor. As long as this weapon helps me hang up at the end, I'm satisfied.

Pros
  • Easily converts to a regular stapler/nailer combo;
Cons
  • Out of fashion
