I recently purchased a new system unit, and it required an adaptor. I was seeking for the cheapest possible option that is compatible with Linux Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. As the default driver is already present in the kernel, there was no need to dance while playing a tambourine. It is important to note that the realtek chipset is incorporated into the version 3 of my adapter. According to the instructions, you can connect the device to the computer in one of two ways: either directly from the front of the computer (if there is a socket) or by using an extension cord. If I have this situation correctly figured out, the cord is being used in this instance as an antenna. If it is not present, the speed of the device will drop to zero, the connection will be lost, and access points will not be sought. The adapter exhibits far more desirable behavior when connected to an unshielded cable that is three meters in length. My adapter was able to connect to my access point at the maximum speed that was advertised, which was 150 Mbps. My data plan was consistent with the results that Speedtest reported. In general, I am satisfied.
