The shoes were immediately light and beautiful. felt snug as new shoes usually do, but settled in quickly and started to feel comfortable. The next day I put them on in the morning and drove 50 miles to the outlet and walked barefoot on hot concrete for a few hours on the first hot day of the year. That's something you might find difficult with new shoes before you break them in, but these Sebagos were fine. I had an inkling of width, so I went with "wide" and it turned out to be a good choice. I don't usually wear "wides" but I think manufacturers are using different lasts now as some new shoes feel a bit tighter or my foot is changing. tend to think that sometimes you should wear "wide" shoes rather than "regular" or "D", especially if you wear socks with them in hot weather, so maybe "wide" suits you. no chafing, irritation or discomfort on my feet after this walk, so to my knowledge the shoes are "broken" and have become my new favorites.
