After a long search for a medium sized portable humidifier without a bright light, I settled on the Vicks humidifier. Perfect! Uses tap water and emits a very fine, cool mist of water vapor. The tank is big enough to easily last a whole night, but the device is small enough to fit comfortably on my small bedside table. The table I put it on is not wet at all (a common complaint from others). There is a small green light on the dial, but it is not bright and does not disturb sleep. It's almost silent, just a very slight gurgle every now and then as water pours from the tank into the base. It even has a spot for a scented pillow in case you want menthol or another scent in your room. The water tank opens at the bottom and the opening is big enough for me to easily empty the tank. The instructions say to rinse with white vinegar every two weeks. The tank is transparent (light blue tint) so you can easily see how much water is in the tank. I didn't want to add heat to my bedroom either, and the mist it gives off is cool, not warm. All in all it's great! Exactly what I wanted in terms of functionality and size, well designed and well finished. I highly recommend it.
