Review on Wine Squirrel: The Ultimate Wine 🍷 Preserving Glass Decanter & Luxury Wine Saver Carafe by Nuntawat Bridges

Pretty unaffected. The concept seems solid and the design is well done.

First impression: Really really innovative concept. It is essentially a compressible "squat puck" with internal engagement to seal/open the decanter by squeezing/releasing the puck seal. This is achieved through the torsional action of the ram, the leverage of which is achieved through the deliberate incorporation of geometrically profiled (i.e., non-circular) interaction surfaces. The piston itself has a gear that meshes with a gear inside the washer. The piston and washer are held together by a magnet and it is breaking this magnetic attachment that allows the piston to be removed from the washer sealed in place. The cons I've gleaned from the negative reviews here are: 1) The washer could fall into the wine 2) The washer gasket could fail 3) The washer itself could fail. From what I can tell at this point, for there to be a problem, 1) something must be wrong with the magnets themselves. Maybe the magnet shifts over time, for example? Or does the strength of the magnet decrease over time? (The instructions warn against washing the parts in the dishwasher, since heat drying can destroy the magnetism.) Problem #2 appeared to be related to incorrectly sized gaskets on previous models, which have since been corrected. Problem #3 may just be an issue related to prolonged use but possibly also cases where moisture/wine got into the washing mechanism. I'm only dealing with issue #3 at the moment and it should perhaps be noted that the product comes with a separate gasket specifically designed to plug the hole in the gears when flushing the washer. I will update this review after using it. article for a while.

Pros
  • EASY TO USE. All you have to do is pour the wine, create a seal and pour out the excess (instructions in the images and below).
