This camera is typical Canon quality. I didn't expect less. In any case, after charging the battery, it worked quite well. I was amazed at how small it was. It was overshadowed by my tripod head. I asked someone who had never used a video camera before to record a dramatic presentation that lasted over an hour, including stage lights that periodically switched from total darkness to spotlights to full stage lights. The camera handled it all with ease. The zoom/wide angle controls were smooth. All other controls are clear to the inexperienced user. The internal microphone is very sensitive. It's important to remember because it picks up the sounds of movement; creaky floors, clothes rustling, etc. I highly recommend using an external microphone for situations like the one we used this camera in. The internal microphone is quite suitable for everyday use. This is a great choice for amateur videography with lots of possibilities. It doesn't have the features and options of a professional camcorder model, but it's not designed to be, and it doesn't come with a multi-thousand dollar price tag. That's a good deal.
