Stick to basic functionality

Pretty good movies are needed, but trying to connect to a local area network over a network to download or view an image is a nightmare. The 300+ page manual looks like it was written in manga-style Japanese and then translated into English by a pair of cloned Chinese monkeys. Great camera, especially considering the price.

I did a little research before purchasing and Canon seemed to offer the best value for money. I chose the HF R72 over the newer HF R82 because it was $150 cheaper and the quality was the same. Pros
  • 3.0 inch brighter capacitive LCD touchscreen with new user interface for easy menu navigation and video viewing
Cons
  • Quick Start Guide

This camera is typical Canon quality. I didn't expect less. In any case, after charging the battery, it worked quite well. I was amazed at how small it was. It was overshadowed by my tripod head. I asked someone who had never used a video camera before to record a dramatic presentation that lasted over an hour, including stage lights that periodically switched from total darkness to spotlights to full stage lights. The camera handled it all with ease. The zoom/wide angle controls were smooth…

  • Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC make it easy to share and transfer images and videos.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
