Are you planning to use LAPEL MIC? Read this first.

*** IF YOU DON'T WANT TO USE A STRIP-ON MICROPHONE, THIS PRODUCT IS PERFECT FOR YOU. I just got here today and I can say this is DEFINITELY a solid device that can give you $300 recording quality (if you know how to use it). Unfortunately, many people have given poor quality ratings due to the low volume when recording with a lavalier mic (and MONO sound) compared to recording through a speaker. Undoubtedly, the volume of the lavalier mic is SIGNIFICANTLY LESS, but separate from the others. Since there's an EASY SOLUTION to this, there's actually a good reason for it. Because the chest mic is designed to be closer to the sound source, the gain (device recording volume) is set much lower, reducing background noise (which is REALLY useful for high volume recording). However, this causes a noticeable "volume is too low" problem (not as loud as the internal speakers). An easy way to fix this is to spend 3 minutes "normalizing" the audio using a FREE audio program like Audacity. (which increases the volume up to ) Using this method I was able to make the LAPEL mic 2x louder than the internal speaker. (Stereo) - Internal recording mic (no processing) 2.) Line-Raw (Mono) - Lavalier mic recording (no processing) 3.) Line Processing (Mono) - Lavalier mic (normalized audio) 4.) Line Processing ( Stereo) - Lapel mic with audio normalized and converted to stereo with tracks #1 and #2 - you can see that the internal mic is SIGNIFICANTLY louder than the lapel mic which is so quiet it barely moves the level compared to the lapel mic . with a lavalier microphone. However, in about 3 minutes of work I was able to create track #3 (processed mono lapel) and track #4 (processed stereo lapel) and as you can see the processed lapel mic recordings are now LOUDDER than the internal mic recordings! And I was able to convert it to MP3 and send it back to my recorder. SOMEONE THINKS: Why should I do all this? ? - This is a VERY affordable recorder, but it's unfair to expect an affordable recorder to have all the bells and whistles of a $300 recorder. There is always a trade-off between accessibility and functionality. So if you want to bypass the [simple] footwork required for a quality (and loud) lapel recording, just buy a $300 recorder. But if you don't mind, it takes 3 minutes to: 1.) Download the pin recording to your computer. 2.) Increase the volume with the free program "Audacity". This product is definitely for you. ======= HOW TO DO IT: 1. Record audio on your device2. Connect the device to the computer3. Open the file with Audacity (Free)4. Select all audio then go to => Effects => Normalize => (Use default settings) ** BAM - Your audio is as loud as the internal speaker ** - Now note that the recording is in MONO (with a side out) ) If you want to convert it to stereo, just go to "Track" => "New Stereo Track" (creates a new track). Copy and paste the loud mono audio onto a new track ** BAM - You now have a very loud stereo Lavalier recording that you can now send back to the recorder (or use in a video, etc.). Again these steps are very simple and I know there are dozens of tutorials on YouTube to show you how to do it. But if all of that is too much trouble for you, this product may not be for you. But for us regular Joes who want quality at an affordable price this is an amazing product.
