I wouldn't call it "waterproof" but it's nice to have a case that doesn't soak up tons of water and is comfortable to use on rainy days. This is a good jacket for fall but not warm enough for winter if you have a short haired dog that gets really cold. It fits my dog very well in length but the chest/belly area is huge - this is disappointing as I bought it specifically for something that covers his chest/belly more than the standard coat and I feel that this doesn't help because it hangs so deep. I pulled his straps over the top to try and hold them in place a little better. Finally, the latches on both sides come apart very slightly, I wish they were held tighter. Despite all that, he looks great on him and we've had a lot of compliments. Better to be able to throw it in the laundry after a few adventures than to bathe a whole dog that's afraid of bathing. For reference, my dog is 35 pounds, has a long/lean build, and we are a size XL.
