19 inches long but compressed to 17 inches fine

Just flew this yesterday for our 11 lb Chiviny. She just walked towards them and could hardly turn around due to her 17 inch length. I wouldn't put a bigger dog in it. head because ours popped out. Loved it and used the sleeve to attach the handle to our $20 cart we bought to pull. The end pocket did not remain Velcro. Loved how we could compress it to fit under the seat. on the plane it barely fit under the middle seat (largest floor space of the 3 seats, including aisle and window seats) We were flying southwest.
