Review on ๐Ÿ’ช Enhance Your Power Tools with DEWALT DCE040 Connector: A Game-Changer for Efficiency by Ted Slaughter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works pretty much as advertised

It does what it says on the tin. It securely connects to your existing DEWALT 20V MAX tools and allows you to turn the tool on and off, track its last 'seen' location (which depends on the Powered Tool Connect phone app seeing it ), the "borrow" tool, and It has a "Lost Tool" feature that I haven't tried yet, but I suspect Tile will notify/update its location when a battery is in and someone else is using the app "sees" him to tell him the location is returned to you via your cloud account. It doesn't show you the battery status, deduction, etc. like the built-in Tool Connect devices do. Also with the Android app, I noticed that it sometimes takes a few tries to enable/disable while built-in devices work fine. I would like this to be improved to provide the above features and make the enable/disable feature more reliable so it works the first time. Regardless, I install them on all my DEWALT 20V MAX tool-less tools. Some people have mentioned that it doesn't work and their tools are blocked. I ran into this problem with the first one I bought and was scared. I contacted DEWALT customer service and they responded quickly and helped. I have found that the battery must be connected for the tool to work. If it sits for a while without the battery connected, it won't work. So just pop in the battery and give it a few minutes and (if you set it up and connect it properly) it will come to life and appear on your phone. No battery, no work. He generally does what is said, so I can't blame him for that. But I deducted a star for just missing basic features and not always reliable connectivity. Once you get used to its "quirks" it works quite well. I'm hoping a V2 firmware update can fix these shortcomings, but I suspect by then I'll move to the built-in Tool Connect tools, or they'll have a version 2 that fills in the lack of features and reliability. Please note that once fitted to your tool it can only be removed using a specialist tool at an authorized DEWALT service centre, requiring the entire tool to be sent in to be removed. FIRST connect the battery and THEN connect to the tool. I definitely recommend following this guide so you don't damage your power tool. and the connection was ok but it would not connect to my DCS391 circular saw. I put the battery in my saw to test it and it snaps into place very well. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the tabs matched, but that the battery latch hung where it hung (the tab on the DCE040 was very stiff). Finally, after everything looked good, I just hammered the connector into the saw with the back of my hand and it clicked into place. FYI, this may not apply equally to all your tools and may require some convincing to latch and work properly.
