Simple, functional, efficient

[edit] It has been a month since I received and installed them. One of them started to fail. The gas mount supports a 22 inch 10 lb monitor. no longer complete. They are rated at 14 pounds so this should never be an issue. I emailed them on Facebook and within hours they responded with a solution. I had to completely loosen the gas adjustment screw and then tighten it again until the monitor stayed in place. However, I had to pull it all the way down before it stayed. Let's see how long this lasts. [Original 5 Star Rating] I bought two of these thinking they were made for functionality not luxury and now I see my decision was right. I now have a Samsung 23" and an older HP 19" (1908) hanging on my wall. One of the reasons I chose them is because they only have one extension cord. Many have two, which gives you more positioning options, but this also significantly increases the stress on the wall stud. Note that the arm is a function of length, and since I didn't have a lot of confidence in the build quality of my home, I went with a shorter arm . he has one joint less than many others. All instructions are illustrated and easy to understand. Freedom of movement is GOOD. It's not great. But my requirements are more than exceeded. Hand and joints hold their position well. The ends rotate a full 360 degrees and the tilt is just enough to accommodate my needs. It slopes down more than up. And easy to get in and out of. The pressure is adjusted with a hexagon socket screw. A few nice touches: - The included wall screws have both a hex head for a wrench and an internal slot for a screwdriver. - The instructions give the exact specifications of the mounting screws you need to buy in case you lose the ones that came with the kit. (correct ones included) - the logo is present but unobtrusive. - a pleasingly understated matte black finish. There are a few small things I would change, nothing that would stop me from buying again. But the manufacturer seems to care about good design principles, so I mention them as possible small improvements: 1. The cable management bracket could be a bit wider. There is barely enough room to lay my above-average fine quality cables. If someone has thicker, lower quality cables, they will have trouble using the case that comes with it.2. The wall screws use an inside cross cutout. They tend to tidy up. Additionally, the Phillips head is designed to release the rider with less torque than what is required to turn them into a tree. If someone doesn't have a suitable socket and this notch pops out, they will have a very difficult time inserting and removing the screws. A torx cut would be better as they can take much more force and are easier to install in wood.3. Wall screws can also be used with a 10mm head. This should be stated in the instructions. The fastener head should also be changed to 12mm as most people have sockets of all sizes but 10mm. :-) I had it for about a week. If they show signs of premature wear I will update this review to reflect that. Tools needed for installation: A good #2 Phillips or JIS screwdriver. Small spirit level. 10mm socket and SHORT ratchet. (Pull it all the way down and you risk breaking the wall stud)

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Socket required
