My wife has always insisted on uncompromising Apple branded products. In my experience, which includes heavy use, neither the branded product nor the generic equivalent lasted more than a year with me. I have my 5th Macbook Air (2017 version or newer) and am happy with buying regular chargers in the $20 range. If the charger is compact and curved, it is most likely an Apple product. (If it has an Apple logo embossed on the broad side, it's definitely Apple. If it's a larger, flat-edged charger, it's definitely not Apple. Still, for $15 it's a buy.)
